Performance Appraisal Tip 6 – Create a Feedback Culture

Ensure that managers in your organisation are comfortable giving feedback. Reviews of performance can be inflated by managers who want to avoid conflict or are uncomfortable giving constructive criticism. Training can be useful in understanding how different people seek, process and use feedback. Feedback in the moment is important. Never leave it until an appraisal; there should be no surprises at this stage. Remember, perceptions of accuracy and fairness are important in reactions to and acceptance of feedback.
